COUNTY COACHING FORUM 5TH OCTOBER Fraddon
Village Hall
Open to coaches and potential coaches there will be four sessions of about 20-30 minutes duration covering Circuit Training for all ages, with the opportunity to try out some of the routines that you may never have come across before, with indoor and outdoor possibilities and suitable to a wide range of disciplines. Try some bounding exercises developed for basketball players in the United States and referred to in a recent edition of The Coach magazine. There is also a talk on ‘Matters of the Heart’ by athlete and coach Dr. Mike Erith and an update on the next stage in the schools athletic development and talent spotting programme for older athletes by Jacky Brett, plus of course your opportunity to bring up coaching matters and perhaps identify some training areas that would be worthy of a grant application.
I need to know numbers so that print outs of exercises can be arranged.

This Cornwall College initiative has been extended for one more year and the funds available to athletics have been raised to £7200. It requires athletes over 16 to complete an enrolment form and the club/coach to keep a record of attendance and a scheme of work. A little tiresome perhaps, as if we didn’t have enough to do, but the financial rewards can be worthwhile as ECH have received over £2000 by this method during the current year. I will send any interested club the information, application forms, registers, etc. What is URGENT is that I know before the end of August the names of the coaches, number of athletes and training venues. The rest is important but not so pressing.
COUNTY TRACK 10000M I intend to ask at the county meeting on 18th August why we do not have this event. Before then I would be interested to hear the views of coaches/athletes involved, but judging by the turn out of senior athletes for distance events at SW league meetings I suspect the demand will be slight

Three years ago it was rumoured that the South West would become a region in its own right, stretching as far north as Cheltenham, encompassing Bath, Bristol. Swindon etc., and no longer being attached to the South of England. A recent report in Athletics Weekly indicated that this objective is likely to happen soon, and whilst it will benefit Cornwall in terms of reduced travelling time to venues, and stronger competition, it will be opposed by the Cheltenham and Gloucester area who wish to remain in the Midlands.
