TARGET 2012

 

 

TARGET 2012 is being launched in 2004 by Cornwall County Athletic Association, to offer the best opportunity available for county athletes to reach the 2012 Olympic Games.

The idea is not to take athletes away from their own coaches, but to work with them, offering advice from a number of sources, if it is required. The athlete’s coaches will therefore be invited to attend and take part on squad coaching days.

The invited athletes will initially be selected from those between the ages of 14 and 20 in 2004, increasing year on year, on the assumption that the majority of contenders will fall into this category. However, these parameters are not written in stone.

• The participants can expect to be invited to monthly squad training days.
• Receive the best coaching advice available
• Have access to specific event coaching days, in and out of county.
• (hopefully) be able to attend at least one indoor meeting per year
• Will benefit from training with athletes of a similar or greater standard
• Should have the benefit of weight training facilities

FINANCE

            I am currently seeking sponsorship for this project, to cover the cost of travel for athletes and coaches, attendance fees for coaches, the cost of specific competitions and the hire of facilities.

SELECTION

The squad selection will take place in mid September each year, using the following guide, where the performance of the final year in one age group may be taken into account during the first year of a higher age group. Eg if an athlete meets the under 15 requirement in his first year as a 16 year old, then it will be considered.
