CORNWALL COUNTY AA COACHING
JUNE 2005 NEWSLETTER
I mentioned last month that these were on the same day as our County Champs and have subsequently discovered that these were in fact the combined championships of three counties around Avon, brought together to improve numbers and the standard of competition.
At a recent South West coaching development meeting it was shown that very little mentoring is going on, yet there are quite a few of us who have done a mentoring course. Mentoring is not telling somebody how to do things, but rather the ability to discuss what is being done, and can take anything from a few minutes to a few hours. So please, give it some thought, (and I am equally guilty), either as a mentor or a recipient, it could even be worth a few credits on your next licence.
If you are on the ball you should have got this out of the way, especially if you wish to do some coaching for the Sports Partnership. If you do not renew before 31st August it could affect your insurance cover.
23rd October, Gampound Community Hall, at the bottom of the hill half way between St Austell and Truro. This purpose built hall with Sport England money has been chosen for its spaciousness, supporting of a sport project, and because it has a badminton court, since badminton is our invited guest sport this year, to give us some idea of their training. (Remember what we learnt from netball last year).
This year we already have confirmed a talk/demonstration about the construction of sports shoes and how they can affect performance, a whole participation session of testing athletes for mobility, ROM, VO2max etc., physiotherapy and injuries, plus of course a discussion session that will include Martin Rush from the High Performance Centre at Bath. So mark the date now in your diary, 1.30-5.30
The response to my request for you views on this was very positive, and therefore I propose to hold this on the afternoon of Saturday 10th September at Summercourt Memorial Village Hall. The main objective will be to coordinate views about how we want coaching development to go in the county. Jacky and I have already put in some proposed dates, but these are not carved in stone and are open to additions or alterations.
The request for views on this thought, before taking it any further, has produced 3 positive responses, 2 negative and one with reservations. If you have any opinion, please let me know before the County meeting on 20th June
THE FOSTER REPORT (UKA) TRAVELLING ROAD SHOW will be at the Holiday Inn, Taunton, at 7pm on 24th June and everybody is welcome, even though it is a long way to travel.
JUNE COACHING BLITZ 68 athletes attended the various courses at Carn Brea and Par, and from what I overheard, enjoyed the learning experience.
