This months’ newsletter is
destined to be an amalgamation of information that I have picked up, and may
well be repeated on some of the websites mentioned below. For track and field
athletes and coaches who avoid the Cornwall Open series because the standard is
considered by some to be low, let me just say that the graded events have made
a huge difference to performances in the sprints, and at the May 6th
meeting Lamorna Newman was pushed to a UK leading Age 12 best and second under
15, whilst her 200m ranks 7th on the UK under 15 charts.

DISABILITY CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held at Exeter on Thursday 17th
May
The 2007 benchmarks are
attached, which will be used to select athletes for the South West Squad, which
some athletes have already qualified for. Rob Whittingham set the standards in
consultation with UKA with the objective of giving athletes something to aim
for. Those successful are then in a position to earn a grant to aid their
training and further boost their performance.
