CORNWALL COUNTY AA COACHING

OCTOBER 2007 NEWS

COUNTY SQUAD

Athletes with at least AAA grade 3 standard in 2007 have been invited to attend, and naturally coaches can come along too. Viv Matthews will lead the middle distance, Mo Pearson the throws, myself the sprints, whilst jumps are still in the balance. Between us we shall work with a team of coaches that may change from venue to venue. Initially the first day will be conditioning work at Crantock Beach on Sunday 7th October, followed by Carn Brea on 4th November and 2nd December. However, middle distance runners will almost certainly have some changes to this to work around cross-country fixtures. Senior athletes who are not normally exposed to ‘standards’ are welcome to any training session

GETTING EXPERIENCE AT BATH HPC

Any level 2,3 or 4 coach is welcome to go to Bath on South West squad days, to see how things work, pick up a few tips, etc. The dates are 14th October, 18th November, 3rd February and 30th March, all from 11am to 4pm. Two or three coaches could get together and make a day of it.

FIRST AID COURSE AT ST AUSTELL

STRENGTH AND PLYOMETRICS

These are a vital part of vital part of training for ALL disciplines, including road running, and I should know, with 22 marathons under my belt. Even UKA are now pressing for it and recommend that athletes upwards of the under 17 age group should be doing 2 sessions per week in the gym during the winter, even if one is at the expense of a running session. Lots of groups are now doing circuits and plyometrics. From Bodmin to Truro School to Pool school, where Dave Buzza begins a Wednesday evening session in the School gym 6.30-7.30 starting on 10th October
