The agenda for the meeting on 10th September is attached, plus something about the coaching forum in October and a circuit workshop in November, along with a provisional list of County Squad athletes and 2012 squad athletes, with the object of them training with different coaches, but who. Could it be you? There are also proposed training dates and venues, which all adds up to why the County Coaches meeting is probably the most import that we have held for a long time, so please try to be there.
There are three courses arranged. In your own interest, if you are coaching children it is worth attending the course, and of course it puts points on your licence.

It is known that the level 1 and 2 courses do not teach you much about the practical side of coaching, so this is an excellent opportunity to improve your knowledge in two areas, in an active, fun!! afternoon. Circuit training is not just for beginners, it can help international athletes as well, as Seb Coe has often said; he would do sessions of 90 minutes at a time. Come along and find out a variety of methods of using this form of training; you will learn more than any book will ever teach you. I wish I could make it free, but unfortunately there is a £10 fee to cover costs. It is worth 2 credits on your licence, similar to the coaching forum in October.
Some of this is coming to Cornwall, and a lot of athletes and coaches could benefit, but the objectives are all in the planning stage. More news at the 10th September meeting
As you may know, I have been pushing this as an alternative to our regular focus of events, and this has resulted in five athletes representing the county at the ESSA race walk championships. Coaches should consider giving some of their athletes a chance to try it. There is a race walk workshop at Pencallenick School, near Tresillian on the Truro-St Austell Road. 10am on 23rd October. Why not encourage some of your athletes to attend £2
There are quite a number of specific event worksops/training/competition days planned for Bath HPC. However, Martin Rush is looking into doubling up with some sessions held further south, possibly at Exeter, reducing travel time and cost while at the same time getting the benefit of working with athletes of a similar standard.
It would be useful if each club had a coaching coordinator that could be fed with information about courses, workshops etc this applies to road and track clubs. They could then get feedback from their clubs coaches, thereby improving communication around the county. For example, the coaches of one club recently asked me about the viability of electronic timing, so I am looking into it for the benefit of all.
I would be interested to know if any road running clubs can come up with an idea to promote a push towards trying to get a marathon runner good enough to contest the 2012 Olympics
