CORNWALL COUNTY AA COACHING REPORT 2006/7

WORKSHOPS for 2012 and POWER OF 10

The 2012 workshops finished in April 2006, and on the assumption that aspiring Olympians would have achieved their objective in terms of performance, the UKA Power of 10 was used as a title for the County Squads. On hindsight this was perhaps a mistake as the number of participants dropped in 2006/07, due to the Power of 10 title having little meaning, and a reversion to 2012 may not be a bad idea.

SOUTH WEST SQUAD

Whether it was anything to do with the 2012 workshops or not is hard to tell, but the number of qualifying athletes for the South-west squad in 2007 has exceeded all previous figures. However, not all of the athletes are taking advantage of it, preferring their own training.

AWARD FOR ALL

The 2004 grant was extended into 2005/6 and expired late in 2006 leaving a small amount in the county account. A new grant of £3350 has been obtained for 2007 with the following remit:

Coaching £1600

Hire of facilities £1000

Purchase of equipment to facilitate the above £350

Transport for disability athletes £400

 DISABLED ATHLETICS

Mo Pearson is doing some work towards expanding these possibilities and CAC already has one T36 sprinter, (Garry Sanderson) and his father, Neil, is prepared to look after disability sprinting on behalf of the county.

A regional workshop is in the pipeline for late March or mid April. If this is successful then it would be fitting to ask some open meetings to include an event for these athletes.

COUNTY ATHLETIC CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

After discussion with the regional office this title could be applied to Carn Brea Leisure Centre who have agreed to several points; including fitting a pole vault box indoors, having a storage facility for the mats, access to the strength training room, video playback, and improvements to the outdoor facilities. This will enhance the chances of obtaining grants for the project and provide a better facility for the county.
