Capio Duchy Hospital Grand Prix 2005

Intro – Welcome to everyone for the Capio Duchy Hospital Grand Prix Awards.

1 minute silence to respect the passing away of 2 prominent runners during 2005.

They are Vic McKee (NRR) and Bill Muller (ECH)

For a successive year, road running in Cornwall has gone from strength to strength, with races of 300 plus, becoming quite common. 2005 has been our most successful Grand Prix season ever, with 323 men entering at least one GP event, (compared to 341 in 2004) with 90 completing 7 or more races compared to 80 last year.

296 ladies entered at least one event, (compared to 174 in 2004) with 45 completing 7 or more races compared to 37 last year.

8 runners completed all thirteen races.

The 2006 GP will be back to a full compliment of 14 races, with one new race. Launceston Road Runners will be hosting the Treggy 7, at a date to be confirmed. This will mean that 8 races are needed, to qualify for the 2006 GP, from 14.

It has been decided that the team requirement for 2006 will be 6 male and 4 female to count, in all GP races, with the exception of the marathons, which will stay as they are. This will hopefully encourage clubs to enter more runners in races, and spread the awards throughout those clubs.

The 50p per runner levy in GP races, has enabled us to build up a fund, and the prizes on the table here today have only been possible, with a contribution from that fund. This will stay in place for 2006.

2006 has seen the introduction of a website, designated to the GP. www.cornwallroadrunning.co.uk is maintained by Colin Bunting (Tamar Trotters) and gives information on all aspects of Cornish Roadrunning. Thanks to Colin, and if anyone has any input for this website, please contact him.

Introduction to Chris Sealy, the Capio Duchy Hospital Manager. GP is indebted to them for their generous support over the past 7 years, as they started their association with us in 1999, when the Cornish Guardian ended their sponsorship. The majority of the trophies you see on the table are provided with their financial contribution. Their sponsorship is spent totally on these prizes, and it was a pity to learn that the Capio Duchy Hospital, would not be renewing their sponsorship for 2006. On behalf of the GP I would like to thank Chris and the Duchy Hospital, for their support for the past 8 years.
