Sandy
Hill Physical Therapy Centre
Cornish Roadrunning Grand Prix Series 2006
Intro
Welcome to everyone for the Sandy Hill
Physical Therapy Centre Grand Prix Awards 2006
1 minute silence to
respect the passing away of Arthur Bullock (NRR)
The
2006 GP comprised a full compliment of 14 races, with one new race. Launceston
Road Runners successfully hosted the Treggy 7, which meant that 8 races were
needed to qualify, from 14.
For
several years now, roadrunning in Cornwall has gone from strength to strength,
with races of 350 - 400, becoming quite normal. The Truro Half had an
incredible 699 entries.
2006
has seen 419 men entering at least one GP event, (compared to 323 in 2005) with
97 completing 8 or more races compared to 90 last year. 345 ladies entered at
least one event, (compared to 296 in 2004) with 55 completing 8 or more races
compared to 37 last year.
12 of
these runners have completed all fourteen races.
The
team requirement for 2006 has been 6 male and 4 female to count, in all GP
races, with the exception of the marathons, which stayed at 4 male and 3
female. This has hopefully encouraged clubs to enter more runners in races, and
spread the awards more evenly throughout those clubs.
The
50p per runner levy in GP races, has enabled us to build up a considerable
fund, and the prizes on the table here today have only been possible, with a
contribution from that fund.
This
will stay in place for 2007.
Introduction
to Ged Gilchrist, owner of Sandy Hill Physical Therapy Centre. (01726 67567)
GP is
indebted to Ged and his physiotherapy practice in St Austell, for their
generous support and sponsorship.
The
majority of the trophies you see on the table are provided with their financial
contribution.
Their
sponsorship is spent totally on these prizes, and when the previous sponsors
finished last year, Ged kindly agreed to sponsor the GP for 3 years, 2006 –
2008.
Ged
has provided constructive information with his flyers at GP races and offers a
discount to GP participants who attend his practice.
