CORNISH MARATHON PREVIEW.

Who wants a lovely piping hot Cornish Pasty, free of charge?
Heres what you do. Go to www.eastcornwallharriers.com, print of an entry form for their marathon, and send it off together with the entry fee to Hilary.....  you know her, the "very quiet marshal" seen helping out at many of our local races.
Then all you do, is turn up on Sunday Nov 20th at Pensilva, which is stuck somewhere out the back and beyond of Liskeard, put your running shoes on, maybe wrap up warm, and then spend the next two hours or five admiring the scenery around Bodmin Moor. Make your way back to Pensilva, and there waiting for you will be that nice hot pasty.
So good luck and best wishes to all taking part.
Whilst posting, for those who have not heard on the grapevine, this years Mob Match at Falmouth has been brought forward one week, and now takes place on Sunday Nov 27th.
Due to my annual re-location to somewhere much warmer in the world, this will be my final post for a few weeks, so take care, stay fit and above all, enjoy your running.

NEWQUAY 10K PREVIEW. - 2nd October 2005

This weekend, Sunday October 2nd, Newquay Roadrunners will be holding their annual 10 km road race. After an absence of 10 years, the event returns to its former home at the Newquay Sports Centre.
For the old timers that took part in the old Newquay 10 mile, the course on Sunday covers some of that route, heading out in the general direction of Crantock. The opening mile is all flat as far as Trevemper Roundabout, but then the climbing starts. Once over the river bridge, instead of running up the main road, this year we take a back lane up and through the rarely used Trevemper Hamlet.Once out of there, another nasty 100 metre odd climb, and the worst is out of the way. After that its just a steady drag for a while, and then its all downhill and back through the Hamlet etc to the finish.
At the moment, (Thursday evening ) there have been around 250 entries so far, and entries will be accepted on the day.Dont forget, loads of prizes on offer, and a "special memento" to all finishers. What is it ??  Time will tell.
For full details and all the info, go to www.newquayroadrunners.co.uk
See you there.

TRURO HALF MARATHON  -  18th SEPTEMBER 2005

With just seven days to go before the City of Truro Half Marathon (Sunday Sept 18th), all indications point to this being the biggest ever  field  for a road race in Cornwall.

If my memory serves me correctly, ( and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong ), but I believe that the previous high was around 450 ish who took part in the first ever MILLER 10K organised by the Newquay Roadrunners back in 1987.
Next weekends race starts at 10-30 from the piazza in the centre of the City, and if you wish to enter on the day, then entries will be accepted in the marquee between 8 and 10 am.
An additional feature on the day will be the family fun run, starting at 10-45 which will again incorporate the Carrick Junior Schools Challenge.
All the information you may require can be found on www.trurorunningclub.org.uk
See you there, and good luck.

RACE PREVIEW.  THE FIRST CRANTOCK COASTAL RUN.

This recent addition to the Cornish Running Diary will take place on Sunday September 4th, starting at 11 am from the Crantock Beach Car Park.
It comprises of an approximate 4 mile run, most of it off road,a bit undulating in places, (those are the bits that are not flat !! ), and overlooks Crantock Beach and Polly Joke Beach. Warmish showers will be available afterwards, depending on sea temperatures and whether or not the tide will be in or out !!

But before you lads start sending your entry forms off , then sorry, but this race is for the ladies only.
It is organised by the Women Running Network group in Cornwall, and is open to all ladies, whether they are members of the WRN, any running club, or perhaps just go for a jog once a week with their neighbour. So no matter what standard you are , please feel free to come along and run with like minded people, and have fun. There will be medals and goody bags to all finishers.

The race is sponsored by Saucony, and Lisa at the Cornwall Running Store in Wadebridge,(www.cornwallrunning.co.uk ), and with kind support from the Crantock Bay Hotel, Bowgie Inn at Crantock, Treago Farm Holiday Park and The National Trust.
Entry forms can be downloaded from www.tamartrotters.co.uk , or alternatively give Bev Pearce a call on 01637 859399

And finally, any guys looking for a "genuine" reason to wander over to Crantock that morning, then I know Bev is still looking for a few race marshals, so just give her a call, and I,m sure the ladies will welcome your support and encouragement.

See you there.  PRS

ST LEVAN 10K. - Friday 12th August 2005

Looking for a good, low-key 10k race in the delightful Cornish countryside on a Friday evening ?  Then why not head down to St Levan on Friday August 12th, and take place in what is described as Britains most westerly race. But then again, if you do decide to go, you will never find it, as there is no such place as St Levan.
Perhaps the best thing to do is go to the event website, where the race organiser Steve Chapple has the precise details of how to get there. Speaking from experience though, do allow yourself plenty of time to get there. Some of the lanes on the way are a bit narrow in places, and getting stuck behind the local farmer in his tractor, trying to get round that evenings only bus, might just slow you down a bit.
Having said that, once you get there, it is a nice friendly race, and well organised by Steve. OK, he is one of the many Sky Blues fans (Coventry City that is ) scattered around the South West, but dont hold that against him.
You will find all the info you require at www.stlevan10k.co.uk  See you there !!

INDIAN QUEENS HALF MARATHON - Sunday 7th August 2005

The next race on this years Capio Duchy Hospital Grand Prix series will be the Indian Queens Half marathon on Sunday August 7th, sponsored for the fourth year by Parkdean Holidays. The race starts at 10 am from the I.Q. Working Mens Club, situated in St Francis Road, located approximately half a mile from the Highgate Hill interchange on the A30. There is adequate parking on site, with toilet facilities, refreshments, and most important for many, a licenced bar after the run.

This will be the 23rd running of this event, and the majority of it takes place around very quiet and scenic country lanes. It usually coincides with one of the hotter days of the year, so dont forget the sun cream. The course does have its fair share of climbs, but there are also several long stretches of good running ground. As with all the Cornish events, there is always a good social atmosphere on the day, and all visitors and holiday makers are assured of a warm welcome.
For the younger athletes in the family, there will be a fun run of approximately 1 mile, which starts at 9-15am.
So far, there have been 136 entries received, and all being well, a full list of runners will be posted here shortly, and then updated on a regular basis.
Anyone requiring any further details or information can contact the Race Director Kevin Burnett Tel:01726 860631. Further details of awards etc together with entry forms ,can be found at www.newquayroadrunners.co.uk

NB. Any visitors to the County who would like a run in the Newquay area on Wednesday evening, are more than welcome to come along to the Newquay Sports Centre at 6-30 pm on Wednesday evening for a social run with  the Newquay Roadrunners.
