MINUTES
OF THE LAST MEETING 12-3-07. Agreed. Proposed by DA. Seconded
by AR.
MATTERS
ARISING. Acquisition of signs still pending. DA to action.
Query
re the amount of unattached levy returned to the County 2006. MH had
inadvertently quoted (from memory) an incorrect figure, therefore query
resolved.
REVIEW
OF EVENTS.
An
Resek Hellys. (451 entries 2007, 339-2006). CH advised that the
new venue was ok. Problems with the organisation of distributing race numbers,
and no pins available at beginning, report of cold showers and very windy on
the finish. The approach to the finish required adjustment for safety reasons. RC
thought it was a good race. PS advised that several rules as laid down in
the C.R.R. & R.G. "Rules for Organisers" document had not
been adhered to, namely 1b, 1g, 1h, 2(2a), 2(3), 3(e), 4(c), 4(d),
Problems at the entrance and exit of car park, with the coming together of
runners and large numbers of cars entering and exiting the car park at
the same time on just one section of road. BP via e.mail on behalf of
Tamar T advised that a couple of his runners volunteered their help at
registration and were rejected in an unpleasant manner. Also the approach to
the finish not very clearly marked, ie section of car park taped off and they
thought that was the finish. CT advised that the treasurer(?) was somewhat
rude and abrupt to him. It was agreed, that rather than issue the organiser
with the "yellow card" CH and DA discuss the issues raised
with the RD to ensure there is no repeat of these problems next
year.
Cubert
5. (532 entries 2007, 429-2006). KB advised
that there were problems with producing results to the usual standard, due to
timekeeping problems and error by JS (her first for years ) when compiling
results. Organisers considering using two funnels next year, and more numbers
on each page for timekeepers and recorders (as tested successfully at Sticker
5 few weeks later ). CT suggested for 5 mile & 10k races which are now
attracting as many as 500 runners, two funnels should be compulsory, and
should we be looking at limiting the number of runners. It was taking longer
to cross the start line, therefore very difficult for those nearer the back to
record a PB. AR suggested where possible, two separate start lines could be
considered.
Meet
Your Max. (182 entries 2007, 178-2006). RC reported that all OK
on the day. Question marks over the future of the race, access to land etc, but
could well be over a new course next year. DA said it went well.
Sticker
5. (389 entries 2007, 349-2006). PS advised
that the race went very well and no apparent problems. Due to circumstances
beyond the control of the organisers, alternative parking had to be found,
which caused a few problems for some when walking from car park to Race
HQ. One person was injured climbing a stile, ( NB. the route suggested was a
public footpath though). Should the field again become unavailable next year,
an alternative route "by road" would be recommended ( in preference
to the public footpath.)
Launceston
Half. (354 entries 2007, 293-2006). DG said he was delighted with
another record field, and despite the unseasonable weather, all the
runners were in good spirit. Presentation was moved indoors, and the runners
were thanked for their understanding. One or two had complained about the size
of their T.Shirts. DG again very unhappy at the crossover point
approaching 4 mile mark, where the runners were again all over the road, and
ignoring the signs to stop them doing this. The 11 mile mark went missing
overnight. Stronger action next year to prevent the same happening again. RC
said excellent medal and T.Shirt. CT said definitely the best organised race
and T.Shirt, definitely the worst course. BH, marshalling said that every
runner who went past, said thank you, which was pleasing to note.
Treco
Marathon. (121 finishers 2007, 108-2006). No
direct feedback, but DA said that those from his club that had taken part had
enjoyed it.
Kernow
May 5. (123 entries 2007, 107 finishers -2006). DG advised
that there were no problems this year on the first roundabout. Numbers could
be higher but race clashed with both GWR and Saltash Half.
Kit
Hill 5. (128 finishers 2007, 80-2006). In the absence of CB/computer,
JS stood in and reported everything went OK.
5
Tors. YT reported everything appeared ok, but she found it very hard.
FINANCIAL
REPORT. JS advised that the current balance was now £3399..41, with
only the 50p levys from the MB10k still outstanding. CT to action.
G.P.
MATTERS. Recommendation from DA (as GP Results co-ordinator) that
every competitor remains in the same age group category throughout the year,
that he/she is in on Jan 1st each year. Under the present system, a
substantial amount of extra work has to be carried out when an individual goes
into a new category and DA is not immediately aware of the change.
This ammendment will simplify matters, and at the same time, come into line
with other branches of the sport. Agenda item for next meeting
to ratify change.
Committee had been notified after Cubert that Mile
High were now an affiliated club and their members were now included in the
GP.
COUNTY & SOUTH WEST HUB MATTERS. There
was still much concern from the SW Hub, that Cornwall were not attending
the SW Hub meetings. Question asked whether or not Dorset or Gloucestershire
would attend meetings if they were held at Bodmin. Agreed that clubs would
volunteer on a rota basis to try and attend the meetings in future, BC
would attend the next meeting in September.
Agreed that Cornwall would support the SW Inter Counties
Championships at Wimbourne in Nov. Although both unavailable on race day, AR
and PS would continue to select the teams as on previous occasions.
A.O.B. Truro R.C. requested a
"finishing line" workshop to train timekeepers/recorders etc. AB to
liase with Derek Burrows re suitable date, probably on a Saturday at Roche. D.Burrows
to then liase with DA. All clubs to advise their members of workshop and
liase with DA accordingly.
Truro R.C. suggested the possibility of the annual GP
awards being made on a special "social evening" event, rather
than after the mob match awards. Discussion took place to gather a few views,
re the level of the event ie buffet, sit down meal, disco, band etc. DA to
circulate a questionnaire to all clubs/members to ascertain level of support.
PB had indicated he would be quite happy to let someone
else "present" the awards ceremony, but all present agreed that he
and Graham Dobson do an excellent job.
Dave Buzza asked for the inclusion of a cross country race
or multi-terrain race could be included in the GP. Agreed that the usual
"round the playing pitches/multiple laps " style XC would not be
popular. DA asked why is it that the road runners just do not take part in the
XC Championships, and what could be done to encourage them, hence DB,s
suggestion.
A general discussion took place re the latest rules
regarding second claim club runners etc.
HC advised that ECH would be organising next years 5 Tors
Run. Entry fees would increase to cover the issue of a permit. First aid cover
could be a problem for S.J.A.B. HC to liase with PS re possibility
of using Cornwall Search & Rescue team who
provided cover at Brown Willy Run.( PS,s son deputy team leader.)
Vale of Lanherne Chase at St Column Major on Weds Aug
8th is not a permitted race, therefore affiliated runners should not really be
taking part.
Hayle 4 .Again, not a permitted race. Possibility of Hayle
Runners taking on responsibility for organising it, but now more likely
next year than this.
AR advised that there would now be 6 team prizes at the
Turkey Trot. Also with more runners now competing, car parking becomes more of
a problem. Additional parking now available at both SW Water (close to start
and finish area ) and at the nearby Redruth School.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting closed at
9.55pm
DATE OF NEXT MEETING, WHICH WILL ALSO INCORPORATE
THE AGM: MONDAY SEPTEMBER 24TH
