REVIEW OF RECENT RACES..
Duchy Marathon/20mile. (2006-384 entries, 2005-251). DA reported all went very well on a very cold day. Improved facilities offered by PV was OK.
An Resek Hellys. (2006-339 entries, 2005-300). CH reported everything went OK other than a couple of mile markers were vandalised overnight, and the S.J.A.B. had failed to show, for which they later apologised.
NB. Meeting advised that the SJAB would now be reverting to their old booking system.
Tresco Marathon. (2006-110 entries, 2005- 115). CT reported it went very well, the organisation and atmosphere etc was excellent.
Launceston 5. (2006-115 entries, 2005-53). DG reported he was delighted with the turnout, the new start and finish areas were a big improvement, and noted there could be a problem at the first roundabout if the size of the field was much larger. CT enjoyed the finish, CB enjoyed the race.
Boconnoc 5. (2006-97 entries, 2005-154). PB reported that a combination of terrible weather conditions, torrential rain, and a clash with the Kit Hill race on the same day probably resulted in the lower turn out. This years course was very muddy due to the rain. To avoid clash with Kit Hill race next year, PB will suggest to Jo Nottley that she liaise with CB
NB. PB proposed that because of the low turnout this year, and taking into consideration that this event is the “runners” way of thanking SJAB for all their help and support at races around the County, could we consider making a donation from the Group.(As per rules, Agenda item for next meeting.)
Cubert 5. (2006-428 entries, 2005-360). Excellent turnout, and everything went very well. Additional car parking could be made available next year to cope with increasing numbers. CT said mementos were both excellent and very useful. DA said that the 1mile prize, (Vic McKee Memorial Trophy) was a good idea.
Meet Your Max. (2006-166entries, 2005-200). Race night changed from Wednesday to Friday.Numbers down due to possible close proximity to a weekend race. DA reported a very good event, especially the free beer. Race was excellent value for money as fewer runners resulted in more free beer and more free pasties!!
Saltash Duathlon. CB reported a good day, around 100 runners, down on previous year.
Sticker 5. (2006-358 entries, 2005-339). DA reported good event, drink stop was positive and additional portaloos welcome.
Launceston Half. (2006-293 entries, 2005-275). DG reported that it was very hot, and in future would consider additional drink stations if such conditions were repeated.
Runners “again” crossed the road too soon approaching the 4 mile mark. DA said it was a great event, good venue and facilities. CT said one of the best organised races around.
GRAND PRIX MATTERS.
Announcements.
Turkey Trot. AR advised that the BBQ was now back on.
Magnificent 7. CB advised 280 entries received so far, and will be full before race day.
Indian Queens. KB advised double the number of entries received so far for corresponding time, everything else OK.
Treggy 7. MH advised 25 entries so far, race limit of 300.
PB reminded meeting of two new races coming up, Tywardreath Trotter on July 29th and Probus 10k on September 10th.
COUNTY MATTERS.
2006 Inter County Challenge at Taunton. DA to send letter of thanks to County AA for their £200 contribution towards representatives expenses. PS reported that unlike several other Counties, Cornwall sent complete teams.
AR suggested that next years challenge should be a different distance, possibly a 10k, and Newquay10k should be considered.
Question of repeating the Devon/Cornwall Challenge at the Plymouth Hoe 10 asked. This would take place in February, whilst the I.C.C. could be in October. Reps to go back to their clubs to discuss.
Coaching matters.
The track was due to re-open on Tuesday July 4th. Nothing else to report.
FINANCIAL REPORT.
JAS advised that the current balance stood at £2688-07.
A.O.B.
Concessionary race entry fees. As a result of a request submitted to the group, a discussion took place regarding the possibility of offering concessionary race entry fees to pensioners. It was eventually agreed that this need not be considered, as any club member suffering financial hardship for whatever reason, would invariably receive help and assistance from their own club where and when appropriate.
Issue of Race Numbers. Because of issues surrounding Health and Safety Regulations, all Race Numbers for GP races must be be collected ON THE DAY.
Grand Prix Results software. DA reported that he had had limited success to date and was still working on it. Some suggestions to help DR were helpful.
Grand Prix Results/Replacement for DR. Gary Player (E.C.H.) has volunteered as a possible replacement for DR. With the ever-increasing number of runners taking part, and therefore the related increase in workload, it is hoped that further volunteers will come forward to enable the work to be spread out. ie one person collating the mens results, another the ladies, someone else the vets etc. All reps to go back to their clubs and spread the word.
G.P.Guidelines. PS to update current copy now and in future, and advise CB accordingly for CRR website. A full list of “race day kit” available for all clubs to use, to be added to the Guidelines.
Womens Running Network. PB had received an Email from WRN admin office, advising that they had seen examples of former WRN members who had not renewed their membership, yet still entering our races as members of WRN.
It was agreed that there was no way we would know who was and who was not still a paid up member. It was suggested that Bev Pearce (WRN organiser at Newquay and Truro) could advise us if she spots any examples of this happening.
Blaythorne 10. Date of next years race-Sunday Jan 21st.
There being no other business to conduct, the meeting closed at 9.20pm.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING WHICH WILL INCLUDE THE AGM
MONDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH 7.00PM.
