RACE
REVIEW.
NEWQUAY
10k: (2005-329
entries, 2004-323) General consensus was that everyone enjoyed it. GD reported
there was far more traffic than anticipated. UKA had sent down a Race
Scrutineer, but GD still awaiting his report.
DEVIOCK
10K: (2005-74
entries, 2004-99). No comments or judgement made, as there was no one from the
group at the race.
CORNISH
MARATHON: (2005-194
entries, 2004-145). Record entry this year. DC reported that everyone was
happy and no complaints or problems on the day.
MOB
MATCH: (2005-293
entries, 2004-232). Race went “fairly well” Few problems with compilation
of results. Problem with details of CAC team, (reason, with JS/computer on
holiday, CB/computer used, but JS Cornish “data” more recent.) CT said
possibly too many spot prizes.
Runners
deviated from the measured route going up “cemetery hill” i.e. they all
crossed over to the right and took the short cut.
TURKEY
TROT: Race
went OK. Complaint received re no water available at the finish. AR thanked CB
for taking JS place in compiling results etc.
G.P.PRESENTATION
OF AWARDS: Agreed
that an excellent job was done by all concerned.
G.P.MATTERS:
Treggy
7. MH reported he had some worries and concerns following comments made during
and then after the Sept meeting. He was also grateful of the several letters
of support. He advised the meeting that all was going to plan, the venue, the
course measurer and SJAB had all been booked. MC said they would welcome a
visit from any runners who would like to “trial” the course.
Forthcoming
events. CT
reported plans were continuing for their beach run on Hayle Towans, possibly
around Easter, but not sure exactly when cause he knows the tide comes in
twice a day, but not sure when yet!!
CB
reported that Tamar Trotters would be organising the Kit Hill 5 mile run this
year. Sun May 21st.
COUNTY
MATTERS.
Following
the success of the Cornwall/Devon Challenge at the Hoe 10 (Feb 2005), this
event was being expanded in 2006 to include all 7 Counties within the S.W.Hub,
and would be incorporated within the Taunton Half Marathon on April 2nd. Teams
would comprise of 8 men, with 4 to count and 6 ladies with 3 to count. AR, PS
and DA will select the teams. PS will send out appropriate letter/information
to all clubs after Xmas, requesting details of members who wish to be
considered for selection. DB advised that several members of CAC may not be
available for selection having already committed themselves to the Bath Half
two weeks earlier as part of their FLM schedule.
It
was agreed that Cornwall would still support the event by selecting their
strongest team available on the day. It was hoped that the cost of entries,
County vest, and transport on the day would be kept to a minimum with
financial assistance from this group and the County. DA would investigate this
at the next County meeting.
An
OPEN FORUM will take place at the Memorial Hall, Summercourt on Jan 23rd at
7pm, to discuss ideas for the Cornwall Track and Field Open series. Ideas and
comments are requested on to how to improve things in this series for the
benefit of ALL athletes from Age groups U11 - Veterans.
COACHING
MATTERS.
Tony
Lett was investigating the possibility of promoting a Race Walking course and
a possible race, and whether or not road runners would support such an event.
GD advised everyone that Ricky Hitchens would be first in the queue !!
OTHER
MATTERS. None.
A.O.B.
DR
explained the problems surrounding the compilation of the GP final results,
stating that there are only a couple of days available between the final event
and the last day for providing details of award winners to the trophy
engravers. DA explained he put the Mob Match, (i.e GP presentation day), back
by one week this year, but was forced to go back to original date because of
clash with S.W.X.C.Champs.
Possible
alternatives were discussed at length re changing date of mob match and/or
Cornish Marathon, none of which were practicable. DR said she would still do
her best with the current situation but recommended that in future ALL runners
must be responsible for checking their own GP results and any possible errors
notified immediately.
DR
asked
if Looe Pioneers were affiliated to Cornwall A.A. DA to enquire.
KB
had
received a letter from a Tracey Cooper, who had a university assignment
requesting information from runners who had suffered from “compartment
syndrome.” He will forward details to all clubs.
PB
reported
that after the Newquay 10k, Pete Ferlie had advised him that the megaphone
used at the start of races was not really up to the job. Should we consider
the purchase of a portable P.A. system?
PB
confirmed
details of the new sponsor of the GP series for next 3 years as Jed Gilchrist
at the Sandy Hill Physical Therapy Centre in St Austell. His business
cards/leaflets etc will be available for distribution at races.
PS.
Having
read the N.R.R. website, he had discovered that the Cliff Temple Memorial
Shield, awarded for many years now to the “Most Improved Runner” in the
County, was this year awarded to the most improved “female” runner. As
custodian of the award since its inception and still in contact with the
Temple family, he was concerned as to who had changed this and why. If the
family had wanted it to go to the most improved “female”, they would have
requested so. DA explained that St Austell trophies had donated a trophy to be
used for whatever reason the group wished. He and PB then decided that it
should go to the most improved “male”, as the CTMS had been won by a
female.
Agreed
that in future, the CTMS does go to the most improved runner, with the St
Austell Shield awarded to the most improved runner of the opposite sex from
the CTMS winner. The wording on the NRR website will either be amended or
removed.
DA
suggested that we might consider purchasing a portable
“display/notice-board” to be used at all race days to advertise races,
sponsors details, latest information, updated GP results etc.
CT
suggested with the newly introduced “voting rights”, something suitable
and appropriate must be made available on the night to simplify the
“counting” procedure. DA to investigate.
CT
enquired on behalf of MBH as to whether or not they are obliged to pay their
SEAA affiliation fee. The answer was “they must”.
PB
raised the question of whether anyone failing to finish a GP race should still
be allowed to include that race as one of their “qualifying for an award”
races. After much discussion it was agreed this matter to be placed on the
agenda for the next meeting.
NB.
As per new amendment to the Constitution, this matter to be included as an
“agenda item” at next meeting and voted on accordingly.
There
being no other business to transact, the meeting closed at 9 57 pm.
THE
DATE OF THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE MONDAY FEB 13TH AT 7PM.
EVERYONE
SHOULD REMEMBER THAT IF YOU REQUIRE ANY ITEM TO BE PUT ON THE AGENDA, THEN
PLEASE INFORM DOUG ALSOP AT LEAST 14 DAYS PRIOR TO THE MEETING.
Below I have drafted out the distribution of the votes as agreed at the last meeting it adds up to 42!
