Re: Truro Half. The word “crap” to be amended to “not very good”.

Re: Treasures report and Falmouth 10k. The “description” of the organisers to be amended to “organisers were not up to the job”

(At this point, it was requested that all representatives attending these meetings should ,in future, select their words more carefully when expressing an opinion, so as not to cause any offence to anyone else).

Re: Comprehensive details of all GP matters. This document was still in the process of being produced. (Very good weather for PS in Lanzarote had resulted in its delay)

REVIEW OF RACES:

Cornish Marathon: Numbers 145, identical to previous year. L.W. “T.R.C. ladies very impressed“. D.A. “No arrangements made beforehand for runners own special drinks, but as with anything else, was soon corrected by H.C. C.T.“The course seemed too long !!”Two complaints that timekeepers had gone when those runners had finished. However ,there was a 5 hour time limit advised, and D.C. was there to give them a time, and their medal.

Mob Match. Numbers 229 Same number of entries as in 2003. “D.A. “Went alright”. G.D.,L.D., and P.B. “Still a lot of confusion over the categories and allocation of prizes etc, needs simplifying. Presentation could have been better. P.B. “Pasties were O.K.” The venue for the Grand Prix presentation was perfect.

Brown Willy Run. Numbers 195. L.W. “Brilliant event. Over £500 was raised for the Tsunami Appeal and St John Ambulance.

Blaythorne 10. Numbers 202 in 2004, 252 this year. N.T. “Well organised race, finish area worked satisfactorily. Query over the positioning of the 5 miler marker (B.C. agreed there had been an error with it). Problems with car parking arrangements” C.B. “Not enough toilets for ladies. As the number of ladies competing in our races is increasing, race organisers should investigate possibility of hiring extras where appropriate”

FINANCIAL MATTERS:

Due to pressure of work JS was unable to provide a complete picture, but advised that the current balance was approximately £1100+. The 50p levy due from the Falmouth Lions remains unpaid, DA to send them a formal letter.

(NB. For reference purposes, the true figures are detailed herewith. Total income for yr/end 04 was £2983 50 (Including £850 sponsorship from Duchy Hospital) Total expenditure was £2108 45. Surplus for the year was £875 05. Surplus c/f from previous years £320 07 Current credit balance £1195 12

OTHER MATTERS:

Cornwall v Devon team challenge. N.T.reported that this was now going ahead, and would be incorporated within the Plymouth Hoe 10 mile race on Sun Feb 20th.The mens teams would comprise of 10 runners, with 6 to count, the ladies teams, 6 runners, with 4 to count. NT, AR AND PS would be selecting the teams on Thursday Jan 20th.NT would have liked to have seen both teams wearing their respective “County “ vest, however Devon , because the race was still in its infancy, preferred to see how the event turns out before committing themselves.NT agreed to go along with this. Devon have agreed to purchase “perpetual “trophies, whilst it was proposed by DA and seconded by DR that Cornwall should purchase the trophies and individual awards for 2005.The race organisers have also agreed to give “free entry” to all selected runners. Those runners will also be eligible to be included in their own club teams on the day, and win whatever awards that they may become entitled to as individuals or club runners.NT is also looking to the future when this sort of challenge will be opened up to other Counties in our region, and eventually, a national basis, hence starting Cornwalls best athletes onto the “pathway of success”.

GRAND PRIX MATTERS:

DR reported of a problem over the allocation of G.P. awards if 2 runners finished level on points. This happened last year, causing one runner to be somewhat upset. Although there were rules in place to provide the answer to this particular problem, it was proposed by MC, and seconded by HC, that in future ,if two runners qualifying for a prize finished equal on points, then they would both receive the same prize i.e. if they both finished first with the same number of points, both would receive a “joint winner” trophy.

Cliff Temple Memorial Shield. .awarded annually to the “Most Improved Runner of the Year” Although it has been awarded for around 10 years now, some clubs seemed unaware of its existence (even though a member of their club had won it in the past). In future, all clubs will be asked to nominate a runner or runners, from their club, who they believe has shown the most improvement that year ,compared to their performances of the previous year. Comprehensive details of all races and times covering those 2 years must be included with any nominations. Nominated members of this group shall then decide on who should receive the award, which shall be presented at the annual G.P. awards ceremony.

DA had received an e.mail from SM querying the inclusion of a Womens Running Network team within the Mob Match results. DA said that they had entered as a team, and were therefore entitled to be included in the team results. DA then asked whether or not their individual members should be included within our GP series, having seen 10 of them take part in the Blaythorne 10 the previous day. Because the WRN is a “nationwide “club, even though they are affiliated to UKA, our GP is only open to clubs affiliated to the Cornwall A.A. Therefore they are not entitled to be included. However ,the general concensus of the meeting was that their “Cornish” based runners should be included if possible, particularly as it would be encouraging more of them to take part in our races, with some of them possibily becoming members of clubs within our group. After further discussion, the following was then agreed. Providing any “Cornish” branch of the WRN paid their annual affiliation fee to the Cornwall A.A., then their Cornish based runners would be eligible to be included in the G.P. For administration purposes, any runner entering a GP race MUST enter their team as “ WRN(CB).i.e. Womens Running Network (Cornwall Branch).

For the purpose of “team”awards on the day, ALL runners representing WRN and WRNCB, will be counted as representing WRN. DA will contact SM on the out come of this discussion.

Although the GP details after Race 1 have been distributed without WRNCB runners included, these details will be amended after GP Rd 2 ,to include those missing runners.

PIRAN SURF BEACH RUN. Concern was expressed about a total lack of information about this race, even though it was only a few weeks away. DA would try and contact the race organiser Peter Foxwell.

All advised dates of the 2005 were agreed, with DA reporting that the Mob Match would take place one week later than normal, to allow runners an extra weeks recovery after the Cornish Marathon, and also give DR an additional week to finalise the GP standings.

AN RESEK HELLYS: CH recommended to all present the excellent web-site for this race.

COUNTY MATTERS.

The AGM will take place on Mon Feb 21st at Summercourt Village Hall. The positions of Chairman, Sec and Treasurer have all been filled. Club affiliation fees to the County were due for payment on Jan 1st.

NT reported that a course to train new course measurers would take place, possibly in Exeter in May. Cornwall really needs additional measurers. DG and CH both expressed an interest. Anyone requiring further details of such duties can contact PS. NT also reported that more timekeepers are required as we tend to rely too heavily on Derrick Burrows.

COACHING MATTERS:

DA has circulated relevant information to all clubs.

AOB:

The £1 unaffiliated race fee. A rumour that this had been increased to £2 was incorrect, although an increase in this fee had been discussed if and when a reorganisation within the sport did materialise in the future.

Renewal of Course Measurement Certificates,( which in many cases had not been sent out), will in future be sent out together with the Race Permit.

The Mines and Minerals race scheduled for April has now been cancelled.

L.R.R. reported that they are in the early stages of planning a 7mile road race in Launceston in 2006

NT gave a few very brief details about the “future of athletics”.

THERE BEING NO OTHER RELEVANT BUSINESS, THE MEETING CLOSED AT 9 10 PM.

THE DATE OF THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE MON APRIL 25TH AT 7PM.
