MINUTES OF LAST MEEETING (Feb 17th) Questions arising

RACE REVIEW

CAMEL CANTER: Numbers up from 183 to 210. Great race, well organised. A “finish line” would be welcome.

FALMOUTH 10K: Numbers up from 137 to 174. Moans re mile markers, “not very visible”, “lack of marshals”, “no advance warning of drink stations"," those attending the race had to pay car parking fee”. N.T. had the impression that there was a lack of communication between the Lions (whose race it is), and F.R.R., but this observation was disputed by F.R.R. There is a possibility that the course will be changed for next year.

TRESCO MARATHON: 112 runners this year. S.M. reported that it was a “smashing little race" Discussion as to the organiser’s requirement that all runners must raise £250 for race charity, Under UKA rules this should not be a pre requisite of entry.

PIRAN SURF RUN: Numbers up from 162 to 199. No steps this year appreciated, distance (10k) only approximate. With P Foxwell no longer directly  involved, the new organiser’s did a good job on the day. L.D. pointed out the possible “ problems!! ” for some ladies, re the position of the men’s changing rooms, in relation to the ladies changing rooms. With sand, access virtually impossible for disabled persons. Suggested that note of this should be included on future entry forms.

AN RESEK HELLYS: Numbers up from 116 to 141. Good enjoyable race, lovely course. Could be considered for inclusion as a G.P event. Comments that it is Multi Terrain and too near London Marathon. Organiser’s to come along to next meeting to put forward the case for inclusion.

SALTASH HALF: 104 runners, most of them Tamar Trotters. Organised by local Fair Committee who seem reluctant to accept additional help.

RACE FOR LIFE (Truro): Numbers up from 1400 to 2000. Excellent race, and brilliant atmosphere. Re race marshals and help from other clubs...thanks to hard work by KH and Kim Long (T.R.C.), no additional help was required. Noted that the maximum number of runners for this course would be 2000. Cancer Research has hinted that there may be 3 such events in Cornwall next year.

CARN BREA 5K TRACK RACE: All went well with good numbers attending, but could have been better supported by more of the Counties clubs. Race and second half to be repeated JULY 22nd.

SALTASH DUATHLON: Good event, with something different.

UKA/SWEATSHOP G.P: UKA have withdrawn their financial support resulting in an uncertain future for the G.P. N.T. said that he was very unhappy (but using stronger language) with UKA again burying its head in the sand in the hope that difficult situations will simply disappear. Hopefully there will be some news available in June.

COUNTY ASSOCIATION A.G.M: Not the most positive meeting with regard to getting new officers elected to the County (few nominations). Mike Hanson elected. Chairman. N.T Vice - Chairman. S.M.-Treasurer. County Sec position remains vacant. N.T. normally represents all road running clubs at County meetings, but M.H. would prefer to see a representative from each club at future meetings.

JACKY BRETT (C.A.D.O.): J.B. gave a brief description of what her job involved, reported on various coaching sessions, officials courses, X.C., the forth coming Cornwall Youth Games, and Sports Hall Athletics. Jacky has been involved in athletics since age 9 and reached England under 23 standard (Hurdles) She remains an active athlete training three times per week and is also a qualified coach. She stressed that she was not, and did not want involved in anyway with the politics within the sport. Jacky handed out some literature with contact numbers and emphasized her accessibility to everyone within the County.

GRAND PRIX: D.R. reported that everything was going well, only minor problem being, runners having a birthday and changing age category.

VIV MATTHEWS- An endurance day for Cornwall. V.M. said that he would like to hold a one day workshop open to all athletes and coaches, probably 10 30 to 3 30 on a Saturday around the end of Sept/beginning of Oct, at a venue to be decided. Ideally there would be a grass field/hill/open space etc, plus an indoor area to view an overhead projector, and if the venue was free, so much the better. If anyone can come up with this venue, please advise N.T. a.s.a.p. Those attending would be charged a nominal fee of about £3/£4, with any surplus after exspenses donated to G.P. funds.

NEW RACE FOR CORNWALL: After much discussion and various suggestions from K.B., D.G., M.E., A.R., and P.S. it was agreed that the MARAZION 10K-a new event being set up by HAYLE Runners, and definitely going ahead anyway, would replace the Wadebridge 7 in next years G.P., most likely on Feb8th, which would help maintain a better balance of G.P. races throughout the year.

RACE FINISH WORKSHOP - CONCLUSIONS: A worthwhile get together, resulting in a standardised “numbers/times” template produced and recommended for use at all races.

MONIES GENERATED TOWARDS G.P. EXPENSES: All clubs have now contributed. Truro R.C. were late (an oversight) and Moorhaven R.C., even though only a very small club, still insisted on paying the full amount. N.T. thanked all clubs for their support in this matter.

QUESTIONS/A.O.B.
